Can I make a search alert for a particular case?
Sometimes it's useful to track keywords within a given case and to get an email alert whenever those keywords have new hits.
For example:
- You might want to know when a particular document is filed and only get notified then.
- You might want to get an email whenever a filing contains confidential information like a minor's name or a trade secret.
To create a search alert for a particular word or phrase, begin by looking up a case. An example case URL will look like:
On the case page, you'll see a filter bar that looks like this:

On the left, you can input the word or phrase that you want to search within the case, you can just press enter to load our full search interface for the case of interest. If you do that, you'll get a search query like docket_id:4214664 (note that this number matches the one from the URL above):

Next, search for the word, phrase, or advanced search query that you want to use as a trigger for your alert:

That may bring back some results — or not. Either way, your last step is to create an alert for the query by following the usual approach.
