Legal Services Organization Group Membership Help FAQs

LSO memberships are free group memberships for US-based non-profit legal services organizations, including civil legal aid offices and clinics. They are intended to support staff who use CourtListener in the course of providing legal representation, advice, or self-help assistance to individual clients in legal matters.

Note

LSO memberships are not intended to support custom tool-building. If you are building a tool, please contact our partnerships team to discuss options.

Eligibility

Who qualifies for an LSO membership?

A Legal Services Organization (LSO) is a US-based non-profit or publicly funded organization that provides free or low-cost legal representation, advice, or self-help assistance to individual clients on their personal legal matters, such as housing, family law, benefits, or consumer issues.

My organization is unsure if we qualify — what should we do?

Contact our memberships team before completing the form and we'll help determine if your organization is eligible.

Getting Started

How do I sign up?

Fill out the LSO Group Membership form.

Who becomes the group administrator?

The person who fills out the sign-up form becomes the group administrator and is responsible for managing sub-members for your organization.

Note

The administrator is not automatically added as a sub-member. To receive membership benefits as the administrator, add yourself as a sub-member.

Membership Benefits

Each sub-member receives the benefits listed on the memberships homepage.

There is no limit to the number of sub-members you can include. However, each sub-member must be affiliated with the LSO and have an organization-branded email address.

For instructions on adding and managing sub-members, see Adding Sub-members to a Group Membership.

Renewal & Cancellation

How long does an LSO membership last?

LSO memberships are annual and can be set to automatically renew each year.

How do I cancel?

  1. Log into the memberships portal.
  2. Click "Manage Auto-Renew" in the membership box.
  3. Toggle Auto-Renew off and save.

Your membership will remain active until the end of the current annual term.
