Legacy Memberships
Some of our oldest donors have what we call "Legacy Memberships."
Legacy Memberships were created when we first began offering memberships, when we converted monthly donors into monthly memberships of Free Law Project.
Prior to this change, monthly donors received benefits in the CourtListener platform similar to how our membership system works now. When the membership system was enacted, we provided benefits that matched Tier 1 to these individuals.
These memberships are called "Legacy Memberships."
Upgrading Legacy Memberships
Unfortunately, Legacy Memberships are not actually memberships (they are donations), and therefore cannot be upgraded to a higher membership tier. If you are a Legacy Member, and are looking for increased benefits, you will need to sign up for a membership.
- Log into your membership portal account at donate.free.law. If needed, use the "Recover Account" button to set up or recover your username or password.
Click on the Memberships tab in the left menu bar, or click the blue button in the Membership box.
Click on the Register Now button
Make sure your CourtListener ID is included on the form — it should autofill, but if not, enter it manually. You can look up your CL ID number using this link https://www.courtlistener.com/profile/id/.
Changing Your Donation
If you want to make a change to your donation amount, you can do that in the portal as well.
After logging into the portal click on the Donations tab in the side menu
Then select "Manage Recurring Donations"
You can then choose to "Edit Donation" &/or "Update Payment Method"
