How to Donate to Free Law Project

Free Law Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Your gift supports CourtListener, RECAP, Bots.law, and the rest of our free legal infrastructure. Most donations are tax-deductible; check with your tax advisor about your specific situation.

One-Time Donations

Give a single gift using our online donation form. We accept credit card, PayPal, ACH, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

Recurring Donations

Set up an ongoing gift on the same donation form by choosing DONATE MONTHLY instead of DONATE ONCE. From there you can select monthly, quarterly, or annual billing.

• If you set up your recurring gift on a day that doesn't occur in every month (for example, the 31st), it will be processed on the last day of the month for any month that doesn't have that date.
• Manage your recurring gift (change amount, frequency, next payment date, or payment method) anytime through the donor portal.

We accept checks. Contact us to let us know you'd like to send one, and we'll follow up with next steps. We no longer publish our mailing address online.

If you have a donor-advised fund, you can recommend a grant to Free Law Project using our EIN (46-3342480). For help or questions, contact us.

Stock Transfers

Giving appreciated stock is one of the most tax-efficient ways to support Free Law Project. When you donate stock you've held for more than a year, you can generally avoid capital gains tax on its growth in value, while still claiming a charitable deduction for its full fair market value on the date of transfer. Because the gift moves directly to FLP instead of being sold first, we receive the full value of the stock, with nothing lost to capital gains tax along the way. Deductions for gifts of appreciated stock are generally allowed up to 30% of your adjusted gross income. Confirm the specifics with your own accountant or tax advisor.

Bitcoin and Other Cryptocurrency

We do not accept donations in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. If you'd like to support Free Law Project using funds held in crypto, please convert it to traditional currency first and then give through one of the methods above.

Employer Matching Gifts

Free Law Project is registered with most corporate matching gift programs. Look us up through your employer's giving portal to double (or more) your contribution.

If your employer isn't listed but does offer a matching program, contact us and we'll provide whatever documentation your company needs to process the match.
