Group Membership FAQs
Group memberships are available for all four membership tiers. Each sub-member receives the benefits of that tier level.
Pricing, group sizes, and tier-level benefits are available on the memberships page.
Managing Your Membership
Can I upgrade my group membership?
Yes. There are two options depending on timing:
- At renewal: Cancel your current membership and sign up for the size or tier you want.
- Mid-term: Contact the memberships team for help.
How do I cancel my group membership?
- Log into the membership portal as the group administrator.
- Click "Manage Auto-Renew" in the membership box.

Toggle Auto-Renew off and save.

Note
Turning off auto-renew means your membership will expire at the end of the current term rather than renewing automatically.
Managing Sub-members
For full instructions on adding and managing sub-members, see the Adding Submembers wiki page
Does the administrator automatically receive membership benefits?
No. The administrator is not automatically added as a sub-member. To receive membership benefits, the administrator must have an individual CourtListener account and add themself as a sub-member.
What should sub-members do before I add them?
It is strongly recommended that sub-members log into their individual membership portal at donate.free.law and add your organization as their employer. This ensures their existing CourtListener account links correctly on the back end.
How do I add a sub-member who already has a CourtListener account?
If the sub-member has already identified your organization as their employer, they will appear in the "Choose Existing Contacts" list. Check the box next to their name and confirm.
How do I add a sub-member who isn't appearing in the list?
Click "Add Submember" and enter their name and email address manually.
How do I remove a sub-member?
In the administrator portal click on "Memberships" in the left menu bar. Then click on "Manage Submembers".
