Will @recap.email make sealed content public?
We take sealed cases and documents very seriously and have designed @recap.email to never access sealed content.
Luckily, this is straightforward because sealed content is only available via "magic links" after a user logs in and the PACER/ECF system has authorized that user to access that item.
We do not log in at all when accessing CM/ECF "magic links" and we do not have your login credentials in the first place, so we couldn't download sealed documents from your cases even if we tried. Remember, the only way to access sealed content is if you log into PACER with your account credentials (which we don't have), and access that item.
So what does happen?
When we try to download a sealed item, we are able to detect that it is sealed since we don't have access to it.
When that happens, we send you a notification that the sealed item exists, and we note that you may want to get the document yourself by logging into PACER/ECF. This way, you will know that the item exists and is not in our system, so you can take any needed actions.
